College Experience

College Mentors are the driving force

behind our work in the classrooms

Our Mentors bring relevant firsthand civic and advocacy experiences to their students and invaluable hands-on support to their teachers. Each week our college Mentors infuse a level of energy and enthusiasm into the classroom experience that helps students get excited about the topics they are learning and skills they are gaining through our program.

We recognize that the challenges within education are difficult and require much perseverance
through thoughtful reflection. Thus, our competitive selection process entails that we recruit,
select, and train individuals who embody and can demonstrate the ability to continuously grow in
each of Generation Citizen’s core values. Click here to see what we look for in Mentor candidates.

Generation Citizen understands the importance of leaders in education reflecting the
communities in which they serve. Generation Citizen actively recruits college students of
color. We support equal opportunity for all people and highly encourage people of color to
apply to join our movement.

College Coordinators are an integral part

of the Generation Citizen program

These individual volunteers serve as a liaison between college Mentors and the Generation Citizen staff, working directly with programming associates and managers to ensure that our program runs effectively. Coordinators are responsible for recruiting, selecting, and supporting college Mentors throughout the program. They lead the interview and selection process,  hold weekly training meetings, and expand Generation Citizen ‘s reach within their university. We could not do our work without these exceptional volunteers.
