Alison Cohen

Alison Cohen graduated magna cum laude, with honors, from Brown University in Community Health and Education Policy. As senior evaluation advisor to Generation Citizen, Ms. Cohen offers a background in both evaluating education programs and in survey development and statistical analysis. Ms. Cohen was recognized as an Udall Scholar for environmental public service leadership and a member of USA Today 2009 All-USA College Academic Team for her work developing place-based, standards-aligned environmental health justice curricula for California and Rhode Island middle school students with the Brown University Superfund Research Program’s Community Outreach Core and Summerbridge San Francisco. She presented the results of their evaluation at the 2009 National Environmental Health Association conference. She was also named as a 2009 inaugural Senior Fellow for the Brown University Social Innovation Initiative for her work advising non-profit program evaluation.

Her background in statistical analysis and surveys includes conducting a community-based, policy-relevant environmental health survey of 200 San Francisco Bay Area residents, the results of which have been presented at two public health conferences. In addition to her work with Generation Citizen, Ms. Cohen is currently a Fulbright scholar to the European Union evaluating the implementation of the EU’s chemicals policy, REACH.

Ms. Cohen’s commitment to evaluating the effectiveness of university-community partnerships is strong. The winner of Brown University’s Jin Prize for academic achievement and commitment to public service and a recipient of the Joslin Award for broad and deep involvement in student life and learning at Brown, Ms. Cohen was also a member of College Leadership Rhode Island’s Class of 2009. In addition to serving as University-Community Partnerships Advisor to Brown University’s Swearer Center for Public Service, she has presented her work at the 2009 American Educational Research Association Conference and the 2008 IMPACT conference, a national student conference for service, advocacy, and social action. She currently has a paper in press in Academic Exchange Quarterly presenting the results of an evaluation of a practice-oriented university course.
