Since our founding in September 2008,
Generation Citizen has
demonstrated substantial promise
Generation Citizen has grown to serve 4,000 students per year in Boston, Providence, and New York City. Recent evaluations have shown a significant impact on student civic engagement outcomes, and our college Mentors are becoming engaged educational leaders, citing their experience as a powerful motivator in their post-college career decisions. Our desire for growth is based on the fundamental fact that an effective civics education is a necessary subject in schools across the country, but one that is not currently being taught, or is not being taught effectively. Generation Citizen can help fill this critical civic engagement gap through our action civics program. There is a tremendous demand for Generation Citizen’s curriculum at public schools and we are able to recruit our college Mentors from a wide array of colleges. According to our recently-adopted strategic plan, Generation Citizen will grow into a $1 million organization impacting over 20,000 students per year in six cities by 2015.
The next few years thus represent a pivotal period for Generation Citizen; the organization is poised to become a scalable national entity, capable of influencing civics education across the United States. A motivated organization exists to support the tested and proven curriculum and Generation Citizen boasts a dedicated board of directors and advisory board, including high-impact individuals in business, activism, and academia.
This plan provides a framework that will allow Generation Citizen to become the most effective, influential, and largest action civics organization in the country by 2015.
